The town of Kirovograd is situated In the very heart of Ukraine in the realm of vast steppes enjoying the status of the regional centre. Now it numbers nearly 280 thousand inhabitants.

The town's history starts in 1754 when the fortress of St. Elizabeth was raised in the upper reaches of Ingul, Sugokley and Bianka in the territory of former Zaporozhskaya Sich. It represents a seldom met example of an earthen fortress that has stayed through the centuries and can be seen nowadays.

The historical centre of the town, the architecture of the 19-early 20-th century is being thoroughly restored now.
